This may be far fetched, but

a ) do you have speakers behind your seats and if so

b ) have you tried disconnecting those?

I had a similar 'whine' in my previous car and it was caused by interference between the gas pump and the wiring of the speakers.

When looking at other topics, we should almost make a sound troubleshooting guidance. :-) .found allot on youtube (since i am not the only one recording)..and hence allot of solutions..

No i dont have any speakers yet. Hence it cant be that. Thanks anyway

As mentioned earlier...it could be a loose cable ( which I doubt) or..the car was not used for a while, that some corrosion of some kind has taken place.

All key elements (differential, brakes etc) are functioning well. So its a good guess we need. Also I like to know a bit what I am talking about when going to any garage.

Fuel tank strap?

would that make such a sound?

Before I go to another garage..:-) (it will be the 3rd one) then the logic is some loose wire or strap.

The sound is not there when you start the car. So hence not the fuelpump. Its not the breaks or handbreak. Pretty sure but not 100 % sure. But when driving and first around 30-40 km/h it comes. Hence if something was loose, the wind would then make this "loose item"contact something which moves..hence the higher speed, more contact then more sound. Does sound logic..

So my question is now:

Besides a loose gas strap. What else could be known as "loose" around the wheel etc to produce such a sound?

I read this some time ago on another Z forum.

It could be the guard rubbing on the rear brake disc.

Marginally bent guard behind the disc, so at speed the airflow pushed it to just touch the disc.

Visited Ruud and found out that it is the cardan. Hope I spelled this right. Not the best information since its getting a higher cost to get this car. I have contacted the garage where I bought the car from to complain. I have already had allot of repairs so far and have not been lucky so far. If nothing comes up, then we always have Roodkaapje.:-)...time to save some money... Anyway, was great to meet Ruud and other z2 enthusiasts. He also mentioned the even on the 1st Thursday in the month. May be a nice idea to meet fellow z3 owners..:-)
